Bitcoin has not been able to make any bullish moves despite the recent rate hike. At first, it struggled to break through $24,000 but now bulls are fighting to maintain $23,000. While we should see another attempt at $24,000 and $24,700, it will be hard for Bitcoin to bounce back if the next attempt fails to breakthrough.

Moreover, the U.S. Nonfarm Payrolls came in at 517,000 — far more than the expectations of 185,000. This release, along with the reduced Unemployment Rate, may cause investors to think twice about the “Fed dovish stance” scenario.

The S&P 500 was able to break above 4,200 but is now back at 4,137. DXY on the other hand was able to maintain its high time frame support around 101.3 and has bounced up to 102.5. 

This DXY bounce coupled with the loss of momentum for both stocks and crypto could mark the beginnings of a reversal.

For the short term, $24,700 can be expected, however, all the higher time frames and economic factors point towards a correction that will have its first stop at around $21,500. Bitcoin and ETH losing momentum post rate-hike rally

BTC briefly reclaimed $24,000, rising 6%, following Fed's 25 bps hike, which met investor expectations.

Powell admitted the central bank saw progress in battling inflation, and stated the "disinflation process has begun." However, the Fed chair did not discount further rate increases this year.

Bearish exhaustion is still evident for Bitcoin, but as more data is released about inflation, the month of February could see market continuing to rise.

ETH also enjoyed the rally with a 5.73% rise over the past 24h as its total circulating supply reached a post-Merge low at 120,514,679. MATIC (+12.72%) became the best daily gainer among the top 10.

S&P 500 also took well to the new rate hikes and is almost at the previous resistance of 4,180. We’ll have to see if this pans out and we get a break of resistance or if a classic double top is in play. DXY is at 101.2 and testing support at its limit.

If we take a look at liquidity distribution, it looks like $24,700 should be our short-term target for the rest of the week which is a solid resistance point and will send us down to a buy wall at $21,500.

Notably, the major liquidation area for long positions also lies within the $21,000 - $19,000 range.

FED's 25bps hike has Bitcoin fighting for $25,000

Bitcoin is exactly where we left it yesterday, trading in at $23,138. We haven’t seen a whole lot of variation over the day except half a percent correction which ended at $22,940.

As far as the interest rate decision goes, the majority is expecting a 25 basis points increase which seems to have been priced in for most risk on assets, including stocks and crypto. Given the market's recent rally, we could see a sell the news event today.

Meanwhile, the S&P 500 is also moving sideways around 4,078 and waiting for today's session to unfold. DXY, on the other hand, has broken down to 101.7, but support remains intact with a potential double bottom on higher time frames as long as 101 holds.

Crypto markets await FOMC decision with majority expecting a 25 bps hike

Bitcoin price has been oscillating in the same range with no real directional action ahead of the FOMC and interest rate hike tomorrow, Feb. 1, 2023, at 7 PM UTC.

The market's next move depends on whether we get a 25 bps hike (as analysts expect) or a surprise, 50 bps announcement.

Altcoins had mixed reactions to the current state of the market. ETH (-1.48%) chose the red zone while DOGE (+7.52%) outperformed most coins after Twitter’s plan to integrate crypto payments was revealed.

Meanwhile, the S&P 500 remained stable around 4,038 whereas, DXY made minor gains, moving up to 102.3 from 101.9.

Notably, however, Bitcoin is set to end January with a gain of just under 40% — its best performance since October 2021.

Bitcoin set to end January with its best monthly performance since October 2021

Bitcoin has been holding onto higher prices last week despite its bearish divergences and strong economic indicators, such as jobs and PCE numbers.

This strength has been waning, and is unlikely to continue. We've been expecting the rally to end and Bitcoin is likely to make a strong move with the FOMC meeting on Feb. 1, 2023.

Meanwhile, the S&P 500 has tried to reach newer highs but remained in need of more momentum. Its inability to break the previous high of 4,180 is also a sign of weakness.

Bitcoin remains choppy around $23,000 as market awaits FOMC decision

Bitcoin is maintaining its price level of around $22,900 despite selling pressure mounting. Bearish signs are clear from looking at the volume bars for each hour spent in the current range, however, we are yet to witness a sharp drop, even as a strong labor market, increased GDP, and higher Core PCE, all hint at rising inflation.

With the weekend upon us, it will be curious to see how BTC and the market trades ahead of the FOMC on Feb. 1, 2023. Meanwhile, the S&P 500 keeps bouncing back harder with each correction, currently trading at 4,062. Looking at it along with crypto, either we go down from here or one final explosive leg up is in store to trap bulls before dragging them down. DXY is still in play and remains strong at the support of 102.

Bitcoin price holds still ahead of February FOMC meeting

Bitcoin had been looking weak throughout this week, and today's GDP numbers won't be giving bulls any fuel.

The GDP Price Index measures the annualized change in the price of all goods and services included in gross domestic product. A higher than expected reading signals a strong economy which is bearish during an inflationary period.

Now, apart from the CPI number, the upcoming FOMC is going to be key in deciding the fate of the markets come February.

Meanwhile, the S&P 500 had quite a bounce off of 3,965, going all the way up  to 4,065, but since the GDP came out, it has come back down to 4,028. DXY, on the other hand, patiently waits at 102.1.

## Bitcoin Technical Analysis

[Bitcoin](https://coin360.com/coin/bitcoin-btc) is weakening but still maintains relatively high levels. As we get deeper into the exhaustion phase it becomes a waiting game. Once $22,300 is broken Bitcoin will probably undergo a faster drop. As of now, we remain in a low volume zone with increased sell pressure and buy walls accumulating at lower prices — all signs that this rally is likely to fail.

## Ethereum Technical Analysis

[Ethereum](https://coin360.com/coin/ethereum-eth) has been much more volatile towards the downside in comparison to Bitcoin. Breaking $1,600 and picking up support around $1,580 is a sign that Bitcoin is also likely to fall. Ethereum should drop sharply after $1,530 and our first target remains at $1,450. Furthermore, we can see volume dropping as the price maintains near range highs, which adds to the bearish structure.

Not much has turned around for NFTs in the last 24 hours when it comes to trading volume. Bitcoin and markets await FOMC as GDP numbers show strong economy

Bitcoin has been showing signs of exhaustion ever since it broke through $21,500, but now weakness is starting to settle in and can be seen in the price action. Despite being held up by support at $22,300 we can see major distribution happening in the current range. The possibility of another high still exists, however, GDP tomorrow and Core PCE the day after will give us more information to anticipate future moves.  
 

Meanwhile, the S&P 500 was unable to move above 4,050 and could try again today. Despite the S&P 500 showing strength yesterday, DXY clung to support around 102 and it continues to do so.

## Bitcoin Technical Analysis

[Bitcoin](https://coin360.com/coin/bitcoin-btc)'s current range has established a bottom with a double retest at $22,300. However, unless we get a bounce soon, a final high toward $25,000 will be out of the picture since multiple retests usually end up breaking support. 

Bearish divergences still exist and are increasing. Bitcoin is continuously being distributed at these prices as seen on CVD taken from spot exchanges. Furthermore, we have bigger buy walls at lower prices compared to sell walls, so a lot of liquidity is locked toward the downside.

## Ethereum Technical Analysis

[Ethereum](https://coin360.com/coin/ethereum-eth) had a small crash but with strong volume. It found support at $1,518 and bounced up to $1,554 with almost 1/3rd of the volume in comparison, making it a weak recovery unlikely to hold up in the coming days. Whether we make a final high or not will depend on Bitcoin and news coming in the next few days. Our first major buy wall is at $1,450 making it our POI in the near term.

## NFT Market Map

With the market having corrected in the last 24 hours, NFT collections also saw volumes contracting. Bitcoin loses ground as bulls continue to show post-rally exhaustion

Even though Bitcoin and the wider market has been showing signs of exhaustion, bears are not going to have wins handed to them as the market leader continues to hold on to $23,000.

With volatility on the decline in the last 24 hours, the market's direction remains indecisive and market participants will be looking toward the GDP numbers this week followed by the monthly close.

Meanwhile, the S&P 500 has maintained a bearish structure since no new high was printed, but we did see some volatility to visit 4,007 before bouncing back up to 4,030. DXY is slowly starting to break drown from 102, but it's too early to tell.

## Bitcoin Technical Analysis

[Bitcoin](https://coin360.com/coin/bitcoin-btc) remains trapped in a tight range but volume is starting to dry up as seen below. This, coupled with bearish futures data, indicates that a correction is likely next. Our first target remains the same, at $17,500, but if BTC crashes it is likely for the dump to continue lower mainly due to the amount of distribution we’ve seen in the relief rally.

## Ethereum Technical Analysis

[Ethereum](https://coin360.com/coin/ethereum-eth) is making a clear bearish structure with lower highs and lower lows. $1,600 is protected for now but it's only a matter of time until it drops below. Bearish divergences are growing on the H4 timeframe and sooner or later we will see a dump that will look obvious in hindsight. We can see buy walls being placed for around $1,450 so that remains our first area of support for now.

Bitcoin keeps market guessing ahead of GDP numbers this week

Bitcoin price had recently dropped down to $20,600 but is almost back at resistance again, currently trading at $21,330. The price rose as the market showed little reaction to the Genesis bankruptcy news.

Mike Alfred (Eaglebrook Advisors founder) said that more bad news would come in the future as “[there are 2-4 other firms that are currency insolvent](https://www.coindesk.com/markets/2023/01/20/bad-news-is-priced-in-crypto-traders-say-as-btc-eth-hold-steady-after-genesis-bankruptcy-filing/),” and “rates rising combined with a major volatility spike and/or sovereign debt issue” could bring more pressure.

Meanwhile, according to Glassnode data [$200M of BTC](https://cryptoslate.com/insights/200m-of-spot-btc-re-enters-exchanges-on-binance-as-genesis-news-filters-through/) went back onto Binance today, an amount similar to Jan. 13, when BTC surged over $21,000.

The S&P 500 also had some relief along with Bitcoin and bounced from 3,912 to 3,950 in today's session so far, meanwhile, DXY still respects its high time frame support at 102.2.

[Bitcoin](https://coin360.com/coin/bitcoin-btc) is making its final push toward resistance/range high before it is likely to crumble down to $17,000 first and then even lower. The current move, although with low probability, was still expected in yesterday's analysis, this is a way to cut down open interest and keep participants guessing about the direction of the next impulse. Nothing has changed as far as liquidations and discount premium model go. We still expect the price to test $17,000 soon.

Bitcoin continues testing resistance even as momentum appears weak

Bitcoin had been showing signs of exhaustion for about four days and has finally broken its upward trajectory, coming down from $21,600 to $20,700. There is a possibility of bouncing back before another drop, but chances appear slim.

We expect to see $17,000 very soon and lower prices are possible if the GDP report on Jan. 26 comes out bearish. On top of all this, initial jobless claims released today came in at 190K compared to the forecasted 214K which signals a strong labor market, and as explained before adds to overall inflation.

ETH followed the same direction. Losing $1,600, it tumbled to the local low of $1,511 then bounced back slightly to $1,524. Others in the top 10 were hit as well, with the biggest loser being MATIC.

Meanwhile, the S&P 500 has had a rejection from 4,030 and printed a lower high, the bearish trend is intact and should continue in the coming days bringing more pain to the markets. DXY remains at 102.2 still looking for a strong bounce for this weekly level support.

We might see a retest of $1,580 depending on market sentiment, but for now, it seems to be heavily skewed towards the bullish bias which means our current range is sufficient to gather longs before heading down without a retest.

Bitcoin price drops as momentum exhaustion takes toll on bulls

Bitcoin price continues to rise steadily, however, it is clear from CVD and on-chain analysis that coins are being distributed within this range. Bitcoin volume is also starting to die off, potentially signalling the weakening of this trend. Perhaps a final push toward the nearest resistance of $22,500 may take place but the rally is likely to end around that.

S&P 500 remains at 4,024, looking to break through resistance. On the other hand, DXY continues to weaken, and is sitting at a weekly support level of 101.632, desperate for a bounce.

[Bitcoin](https://coin360.com/coin/bitcoin-btc) continues to climb higher despite losing momentum from spot buying as well as overall volume in general — both of which typically signal a bull trap before a dump. Looking at the liquidation map we can see a sentiment shift from bearish to bullish, with most if not all the liquidations mainly clustered around $16,500 - 17,500. As bearish signs keep coming up, it is likely, the coming retracement will not just be a correction before we move high but a proper drop.

Looking at liquidations there is a massive cluster of high leverage longs present around lower $1,200. Nothing looks bullish on the chart, however, if Bitcoin wants to push one final time as suggested above Ethereum will also see a nice move, but ultimately it is likely to come down again.

Bitcoin presses on despite bearish divergences, but momentum appears weak

Bitcoin has been losing momentum around $20,900 and is starting to top out around $21,300 as bearish divergences begin to form on price spikes. Liquidity is mostly trapped around $16,900 - $17,500,  and we can expect a correction in the near-term.

On-chain data also indicates inflows of BTC to exchanges while stablecoin reserves dropped.

Meanwhile, the S&P 500 is breaking through a resistance trendline and crossing 4,030. Currently, it sits on top of the resistance trend line but seems to be heavily overbought. If this rally continues crypto will also follow. DXY sits at support on 102.3 and a bounce from here could form a double top around 110.

## Ethereum Technical Analysis

[Ethereum](https://coin360.com/coin/ethereum-eth) is following a similar pattern with an upward trajectory but decreasing volume, however, the candle bodies are longer than on Bitcoin. This is due to the high open interest with Ethereum. At best when this low volatility range breaks out it can try to test $1,650 and reject from resistance, or directly head down to $1,210 - $1,270 which is the liquidity zone for Ethereum.
