X introduces direct trading links for Bitcoin and stock cashtags

New feature connects market conversations and charts with outside brokers and crypto exchanges

TL;DR

  • X has added a “Trade” button to Cashtag pages for U.S. users, linking market conversations to outside trading platforms.
  • Coinbase, Gemini and Kraken provide crypto-related access, while Interactive Brokers and Moomoo cover stocks and other traditional financial products.
  • X does not execute the trades itself; users are sent to participating platforms to complete transactions.

X has expanded its U.S. Cashtag Partner Program to let users move from cryptocurrency and stock discussions on the platform directly to outside trading services, with the feature reported live on September 22, 2026. Users can tap Cashtags such as $BTC or $TSLA, view market information and related posts, and select a “Trade” button that sends them to a participating brokerage or crypto platform. X acts as the connection point rather than the broker, with the actual transaction completed through the partner service.

Cashtags have existed on X for years as a way to find conversations about financial assets. Earlier this year, X expanded the feature with real-time prices and charts. The latest change adds a trading pathway, allowing users to move from market discussion and asset information to an outside execution platform without having to separately search for a brokerage or exchange.

Mridul Singhai, Product Engineering Lead at X, described the goal of the feature in a statement: “Cashtags close the gap between a ticker on the timeline and the market itself.”

X connects Cashtags with crypto exchanges and brokerages

The initial U.S. partner group includes CoinbaseGeminiKraken, Interactive Brokers and Moomoo. Coinbase, Gemini and Kraken are primarily tied to cryptocurrency trading, while Interactive Brokers and Moomoo provide access to stocks and other traditional financial products.

Tapping the trading option does not cause X to buy or sell Bitcoin, stocks or other assets on a user’s behalf. Users are instead routed to one of the participating services, where they can log in or sign up and complete the order. The structure keeps market discovery and discussion on X while leaving execution with the external brokerage or exchange.

Monique Pintarelli, head of global advertising at SpaceX AI, said the partner system is intended to shorten the path between discovering a financial topic and taking action.

“People come to X to discover what’s happening, shape the conversation, and act in real-time on what matters to them. Our Cashtag partners make it possible to move seamlessly from discovery and conversation to a brokerage, without breaking the moment.”

The feature applies to U.S. users and covers both cryptocurrency and traditional financial markets. Bitcoin serves as one example of the workflow: a user can encounter $BTC on the timeline, open its Cashtag page, review live information and related posts, and use the trading option to reach a participating crypto platform. Tesla provides a stock-market example through $TSLA.

Big Charts expands market data inside X

X has also expanded the Cashtag experience through its Big Charts feature, which lets users open a larger interactive chart rather than relying only on a smaller price display.

Supported examples cited for the larger charts include Bitcoin, Ethereum [ETH], Ripple [XRP], Solana [SOL], Dogecoin [DOGE], Tesla, Strategy and Coinbase. The mix reflects the broader scope of the Cashtag system, which covers both cryptocurrencies and publicly traded companies.

The combination of Cashtags, real-time pricing, charts and outside trading links builds on X’s effort to make the platform a broader financial destination. The trading integration stops short of native brokerage execution because users still complete transactions through the participating services.

The launch also followed a separate incident involving Neuralink executive Shivon Zilis’ X account. Hackers compromised the account and posted material promoting a memecoin called SLINK, drawing Elon Musk into the episode. The incident was presented separately from the Cashtag trading rollout and was not tied to the partner trading infrastructure.

The latest Cashtag update therefore changes the role of financial posts on X from mainly discovery and market tracking toward a direct handoff to execution. Users can move from a ticker on the timeline to live market information and then to a brokerage or crypto exchange, while the transaction itself remains outside X.
