FAQ/What Is the Maximum Supply?

Cryptocurrency Supply: the Difference between Circulating Supply, Total Supply and Maximum Supply

What Is the Maximum Supply?

The maximum supply (max supply) is the largest amount of coins that will ever exist for a particular cryptocurrency.

Example:

The max supply of Bitcoin Cash (BCH) is limited to 21,000,000 BCH, while Litecoin (LTC) has a limit of 84,000,000 LTC.

Fact: Cryptocurrency forks often have the same number of coins as their base currency, for example, the max supply of Bitcoin Cash (BCH), Bitcoin SV (BSV), Bitcoin Gold (BTG), BitCore (BTX), Bitcoin Core (BTCC) is equal to 21,000,000 like Bitcoin (BTC). However, this rule is not universal. Litecoin (LTC) is a fork of Bitcoin with 84,000,000 LTC max supply. Another example is DASH, a source code fork with a maximum supply of 18,900,000 DASH.
